CCAC Methane Studies

CCAC Methane Studies is a project to estimate methane emissions from oil & gas fields using TROPOMI (and other) satellite data. We initially focus on regions in Algeria and Venezuela. For Venezuela, we focus on the oil producing region around Lake Maracaibo. In Algeria we estimate the emissions in the two largest oil & gas fields Hassi R’Mel and Hassi Messaoud. Here, we also use high spatial resolution observations from Sentinel-2 in one framework with the TROPOMI data to characterize the contribution from methane super-emitters to total emissions of the oil & gas fields.
